Font Aid III

Font Aid II

I have long been fascinated with the writing systems of the world, and in typography which can represent the world's languages accurately and beautifully. Through Evertype I endeavour to make available high-quality fonts, and offer high-quality typesetting services as well.

I began working with the Universal Character Set as Irish national representative to ISO/IEC JTC1/SC2/WG2, and as my interest and expertise in the area grew, I became one of the principal editors and authors of the Unicode Standard. I have a set of pages dedicated to the documents I have prepared in order to add new scripts and characters to those standards.

CeltScript is my ongoing effort to reproduce all of the Gaelic fonts historically used to print the Irish language since the first book was printed in 1571. In addition, I continue to design "new" Gaelic fonts which are, I believe, authentic to the Celtic tradition. It has been a pleasure making available the typefaces employed on the Irish typewriters which were in use in the twentieth century.

Everson Mono is a simple, elegant font which I designed in 1996 with the intention of making available a monowidth font which supports as much of the Universal Character Set as possible. I have made lots -- and lots -- and lots -- of the UCS characters available, though for reasons of platform, proper "Unicode" versions of the fonts weren't available for a long time. In the meantime, Everson Mono supported many of the Apple character sets, the ISO/IEC 8859 series, and tables of ISO/IEC 10646. Work on getting Everson Mono to work properly on Unicode-compliant platforms is ongoing.

Ogham is an ancient script of Ireland which gives me abiding enjoyment.

The Sutton SignWriting fonts available on the SignWriting site are fingerspelling fonts which I designed for Deaf Sign Languages.

The Inuktitut syllabic fonts available on my site were designed as part of the ongoing localization of the Mac OS into that rich and amazing language. I hope to make them available in Unicode format soon.
